PUPIL PREMIUM...
What is the Pupil Premium?
The Pupil Premium is a funding stream allocated to schools on the basis of the number of pupils who have been eligible for Free School Meals in the last six years of their education. It also includes any ‘looked after children’ and students who have parents in the Armed forces.
The amount received by the school depends on the number of children whose parents register to receive FSM or come under the above categories.
Schools decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools per FSM pupil, is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.
The student is at the centre of our approach to closing the gap. We wrap around them as much support as is needed to break down any barriers to learning and ensure they make progress and fulfil their potential. Quality first teaching is essential for students to succeed, it is the lesson by lesson progress that students make that is essential to their final successes in examinations. We will work towards removing any barriers to learning students face such as, poor attendance, weak literacy and numeracy and emotional and behavioural difficulties.
All members of staff, governors and teaching assistants accept responsibility for ‘socially disadvantaged’ students and are committed to meeting their pastoral, social and academic needs within the school environment.
Mendip Studio School is committed to ‘Closing the Gap’ for vulnerable students and the Pupil Premium will form a vital part of that process. Provision will be made through:
- Facilitating students’ access to education
- Facilitating students’ access to the curriculum
- Alternative support and intervention within the school environment
- Facilitating student access to enrichment activities to support learning
