A Grand Gesture

Thanks to the generous donations of Lady Evelyn Strasburger and Andrew Fletcher, students at Mendip Studio School will now enjoy classical piano recitals from world renowned musicians on one of the best grand pianos in the world.

The Grotrian-Steinweg is hailed a masterpiece of its kind with its stunning tone and playing mechanisms that meets the very highest standards of quality, refinement and perfection, an instrument of envy for prestigious music institutions across the country.

Lady Strasburger pioneered the ‘Artist in Residence’ scheme at Writhlington that introduced students to the world of classical music with a series of workshops with celebrated musicians including violinist Benjamin Baker and Classical Guitarist Sean Shibe

Lady Strasburger commented:

I am so happy to see the new piano installed at Writhlington School and hope to see the students’ curiosity and interest which I hope will flourish and grow into a love of music.

It is not worth having this piano if it is not played well – that is why I arranged for the school to have it.  I think students should hear the best we can find live because it is completely different from listening to any kind of recording.

I wish the school good luck with this beautiful piano.  I look forward to sharing music with you in the coming months and years.”

Head of Music, Joanne Briggs, commented:

We are eternally grateful for the generosity and enthusiasm of Lady Strasburger and Andrew Fletcher. Working with Bath Mozartfest and Lady Strasberger has transformed the lives of many of our students and made classical music accessible to all. We are looking forward to welcoming more musicians throughout the course of the year and hope to develop these links even further.’
