Adventure Packed Holidays

Writhlington and Mendip Studio School’s Combined Cadet Force attended the annual Easter camp at the Okehampton Training Camp on Dartmoor where they took part in wide range of activities whilst competing for the Easter Camp Shield.

One of the favourite activities this year was the field training exercise, where cadets were able to practise field craft training in a realistic environment. Cadets also took part in archery, air rifle, navigation exercises, command tasks and completed a one day expedition on Dartmoor.

The CCF shared Okehampton Camp with Devon ACF which gave students a chance meet and talk to high ranking officers and mix with cadets from other organisations. The Commandant of the Devon ACF, Colonel A R Fulford was very impressed by the Writhlington contingent and in particular the Cadets’ marching.

On the last day, the cadets travelled to Bridestowe and completed water-based adventure training; taking part in canoeing and kayaking, before rounding the day off with a raft building competition and the “leap of faith”.

Cadet Corporal Patrick Withey said:
“I think it’s safe to say that everyone had a very enjoyable and action packed week. Congratulations to 1 Section, Delta Fire Team who won the competition”.
