Students Constructing the Future

Building contractors at the new Mendip Studio School downed tools to allow staff and students to visit the construction site of their new school.

The 14-19 specialist Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths centre is situated on the same campus as Writhlington School and offers a wide range of opportunities through project based learning and work experience with Industry Partners.

Students and staff were given the opportunity to talk to Project Manager, David Crabb, and quiz him on the stages of the build, including architecture and building design and the structural engineering.  The site visit was particularly well-timed as the students are currently looking at architecture as part of their Affordable Housing project.

Head Teacher Bruce Hain commented:

“Our students have been patiently waiting for this state-of-the-art provision and it is fantastic to see the building taking shape. From the classrooms, in the Sixth Form,  you get a front row view of the build in progress and it is fascinating to watch!”

Year 10 student, Kyle said:

“It was good to visit the site and stand “inside” what will become our school.   Mr Crabb was really good at explaining the building progress so far and what will happen next. We can’t wait for it to be completed and for us to move in.”
