Head of Mendip Sixth Form, Mr Bridges and a team of 9 others from Frome, are hoping to break the world record for the furthest distance climbed on a ten metre fire ladder in eight hours.
Mr Bridges and the team will be climbing the ladder on a purpose built scaffolding tower outside Frome Library during the Independent Market on July 2 from 8.30am until 4.30pm.
During this time the team must climb 42,290 metres, the equivalent of climbing four and a half times Everest.
Mr Bridges commented:
‘Last year I stood up in assembly and told all the students about my solo climb of the Cullin Ridge, which I thought was one of the hardest things I would ever do, turns out I was wrong! 8 Hours of continuous ladder climbing is pretty tough! I want to prove to myself and our students that you can do anything if you put your mind to it.’
The challenge was set up to raise valuable funds for two local causes We Hear You (WHY) a cancer counselling service and Jamie Mines, a friend of the team, who suffered life changing amputations following an accident at work last year.
Writhlington will be holding a Mufti day to help raise money for WHY, Jamie Mines and Papyrus – The prevention of Young Suicide.
