Young Poet Laureate

Students from Writhlington Schoo and Mendip were invited to take part in a Poetry Slam hosted by nationally recognised Poet, Rebecca Tantony.

Rebecca has traveled the world working with international artists at venues including Royal Albert Hall, the Natural History Museum, The South Bank Centre and Colston Hall.

Students across Years 7-12 took part in a two day workshop with Rebecca, celebrating language and creative minds with a selection of tasks and performances. Students were challenged to write their own performance piece to deliver in front of an audience.

Mr Patel, English Teacher, commented:

“The students involved were an absolute credit to school and Rebecca was incredibly positive about the experience for the second year running. The maturity shown to write the quality of work that was produced about a topic as poignant as loss was a pleasure to see.”

The two days culminated with a performance to students and family in which Ethan Doble was crowned Poetry Slam champion. Year 12 students Bronya Marsh was also awarded title of Young Poet Laureate for the local area for her love and passion for poetry.
