Orchids and Big Cats – Life After Sixth Form

Heather was an active member of The Orchid Project and she has recently started her 3rd year at Chester University studying Conservation Biology.

Building on her active participation in science and the Orchid Project at Writhlington and Mendip Studio Schools she is working on a dissertation on Oeceoclades maculata.

She has recently spent 2 months in South Africa with GVI (Global Vision International) doing a wildlife conservation internship collecting data on the Big 5 species along with cheetahs. Here she learnt about tracking, bird identification and setting camera traps for hyena research. She also completed some GIS maps for the reserve whilst gaining practical experience with research collection and reserve management.
