Rathbones National Lacrosse Tournament

Writhlington and Mendip Studio School attended the Rathbones National Lacrosse Tournament in Guilford.

Students at Mendip and Writhlington are very competitive when it comes to all sports and this was proven no different when Head Coach and Science Teacher, Irene Moynihan, introduced Writhlington’s first Lacrosse team.

Rathbones tournament is very popular amongst private schools but Writhlington were invited to attend not only to play but as a representative of the Rathbones Bursary Fund. Entry fee and travel costs were covered by the tournament organisers in a bid to encourage more state schools to take part in this highly competitive sport.

The Writhlington team was also kindly donated all of their branded sports kit by Brand HK, a branding and souvenir company based in Hong Kong.

Head Coach Irene Moynihan said:

I am very proud of the girls and how far they have come in such a short time. We have incredible support from the school and from other agencies involved with this sport and it has been really encouraging. I think this team could really go far and I can’t wait to see what they have up their sleeves!’

The team continue to train with Bath City Lacrosse team and hope to attend more games and tournaments in the future.
